BROADBAND TOWER IN JAPAN DEPLOYS FORCE10 NETWORKS E-SERIES SWITCH/ROUTERS

Tokyo’s First Internet Data Center to Deploy and Offer Customers True Line-Rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet Based Services and Connectivity

MILPITAS, Calif., September 10, 2003 — Force10 Networks, Inc. the leading developer of high-performance Ethernet data center systems, today announced that the BroadBand Tower, Inc. of Tokyo, Japan, is using the Force10 E-Series E600™ chassis to provide a high capacity, manageable, stable, and reliable Internet Data Center platform for Gigabit (GbE) and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) services. As one of the premier service providers located in Tokyo, Japan, BBTower provides high capacity connectivity for a wide range of applications and services including large-scale Carrier/ISP peering, resources intensive Internet connections, and an expanding collocation facility.

“10 Gigabit Ethernet provides a very future focused platform for Internet Data Center services,” said Mr. Takeshi Amaike, Director of the Networks Technology Department at BBTower. “We needed to upgrade our existing Gigabit based backbone in order to accommodate our multiplying traffic load and looked for a product that offered extensive switching capacity and supported full wire-rate, non-blocked performance at Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet data rates. We selected the Force10 E-series because it has the capabilities to meet our current demands and growth potential to meet our future needs.”

The E-Series provides consistent, reliable, and redundant line-rate performance regardless of chassis configuration and with value added services enabled such as QoS and ACLs. The E600 scales to 14-ports of 10GbE and 168-ports of GbE in a very compact form factor. These features enable BBTower to meet their present and impending bandwidth demands driven by broadband content services providers such as Online Gaming, Online Shopping, and other entertainment based Portal sites.

“The Force10 Networks hardware and the dependability of the Force10 Operating System™ (FTOS) software working together provide a very solid foundation to support bandwidth intensive services and applications,” said Marc Randall, Force10 Networks CEO. “We are proud that BroadBand Tower selected Force10 as a technology partner for their 10 Gigabit Ethernet Internet Data Center network upgrade.”
